Man dies after Friday's accident at Kilkenny mine

A man injured in a serious mining accident in Co Kilkenny on Friday has died.

The victim, 43-year-old mine-fitter Michael Joyce, sustained serious head injuries after falling through a safety railing on to some machinery, and was taken immediately to hospital.

He had been working at the Galmoy mine since 2000.

The Health and Safety Authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
