PDs promise to introduce SSIA-type pension scheme

The Progressive Democrats have promised to introduce an SSIA type scheme for pensions, whereby the government would contribute €1 for every €2 saved.

The party has also just announced plans to double the early childcare supplement if returned to Government.

Details of the party's manifesto for the General Election are currently being announced.

Last night, the PDs tried to overshadow Labour's tax proposals, which stated they would reduce income tax in the lower band from 20% to 18%.

The PDs said they would match this reduction but also reduce tax in the upper band from 41% to 38%.

Within the next hour, the party is expected to make some announcement on stamp duty to help first-time house buyers.
