McDowell expected to announce plans for tax cut

Speculation is growing that Progressive Democrats leader Michael McDowell may be about to promise a reduction in income tax for all earners.

The Tánaiste will deliver his keynote address at the party's national conference in Wexford later tonight.

Sources say the PD leader is expected to announce radical proposals to reduce income tax in the lower and upper bands.

It would follow the Labour Party's pledge last week to reduce income tax in the lower band from 20 to 18%.
