A teenager has been charged with the murder of a father-of-four who was stabbed to death in a street yards from his home.

A teenager has been charged with the murder of a father-of-four who was stabbed to death in a street yards from his home.

Eighteen-year-old Micheal Jason Smith, of Main Avenue, Newry, was charged with the murder of 41-year-old Stiofan Loughran on Thursday.

At a special Sunday sitting of Newry's Magistrate Court he was also charged with assaulting one of Mr Loughran's young sons and causing him actual bodily harm.

The teenager was remanded in custody to reappear at the same court via a video link on March 7.
