The director of Women’s Aid, Margaret Martin, is to be honoured with the ’James Larkin Thirst for Justice’ Award at the Labour Party conference this weekend.

The director of Women’s Aid, Margaret Martin, is to be honoured with the ’James Larkin Thirst for Justice’ Award at the Labour Party conference this weekend.

Ms Martin has been an activist on social and women’s issues for 30 years and over 20 years experience of working in adult education focusing on women.

Women’s Aid is a feminist, campaigning and political organisation, which works to eliminate violence against women.

The organisation provides support services and information to thousands of women experiencing abuse through the National Freephone Domestic Violence Helpline and one-to-one support services.

Previous winners of the award include Colm O’Gorman, director of the One in Four charity, Fr Paul Byrne, former director of the Irish Episcopal Commission for Emigrants, Adi Roche, Chernobyl Children’s Project and Fergus McCabe, community drugs activist.
