North: Two held over attack on Portuguese man

Two men were arrested today by detectives investigating a vicious assault on a Portuguese migrant which left him in hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the men were arrested this morning at their homes in Portrush, Co Antrim.

The 37-year-old migrant was attacked at his home in the town at around 3am on Tuesday when two masked men forced their way into his home, forced his girlfriend to lie on the floor and repeatedly hit him around the head and body.

The house was ransacked before the men left.

A Police Service spokesman said they were following a definite line of inquiry and were not treating the assault as a racial incident.

Meanwhile three of of four men arrested following the assault of a man in Garvagh, Co Derry on Monday night have been charged.

They were charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The fourth man was released on police bail pending further inquiries.
