Students stage car parking protest
Students at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) will today stage a picket over the introduction of clamping in their campus car park.
Up to 250 students, including mature students with young children, will be forced to park in nearby housing estates, according to the DKIT Students Union.
Spokesman Niall Callery said: “DKIT management should spare a thought for local residents and hard-working students who commute, and immediately revise their plans.”
The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has supported the protest, due to begin at 9am in the Co Louth town.
USI president Colm Hamrogue said: “DKIT has a huge catchment area, most of which has inadequate public transport. It has a responsibility to provide for students who have cars and use them regularly.”
