Deasy condemns HSE's failure to protect Waterford girl
Fine Gael TD John Deasy is condemning the Health Service Executive over its handling of a 14-year-old girl who died after inhaling solvents at the weekend.
Mr Deasy says he asked the HSE more than a year ago that Michelle Bray's life was in danger if she was not placed in residential care.
He says the case was brought to his attention by concerned social and youth workers.
Mr Deasy says he wrote twice to the HSE to highlight the urgency of the situation, but didn't get a response to either letter.
He is now calling for an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the failure to put the girl into care.
