PSNI apologises to family of murdered Armagh brothers

The PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team has apologised to the family of three brothers killed by loyalist paramilitaries 30 years ago.

The Reavey brothers were shot dead by the UVF in 1976 as the North descended into some of the worst violence of the Troubles.

A whispering campaign subsequently suggested the south Armagh brothers were IRA men.

However, the Historical Enquiries Team says this was not true and has apologised for what it called the appalling harassment inflicted on the family over the years by British soldiers and police.

It has also apologised for failing to provide details to the family about the police inquiry.

The team was recently established to investigate more than 3,000 unsolved murders during the Troubles.
