Shaun Paul O'Hagan, 26, from Ballymena today became the first person to die on the roads in the North in 2007.

Shaun Paul O'Hagan, 26, from Ballymena today became the first person to die on the roads in the North in 2007.

He died when a car he was travelling in left the road outside Cargan in Co Antrim shortly before 3am.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Glenravel road to treat two men and two women in their 20s who were also injured when the Citroen car crashed.

Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Mr O'Hagan, of Glenravel Road, Ballymena, died at the scene.

There were 125 road deaths in the North during 2006, a fall from the 135 people killed in 2005 and 147 whose lives were lost in 2004.
