Passenger numbers on both Luas lines in Dublin rose by 17% during 2006.

Figures released by the Railway Procurement Agency show that the light rail system carried more than 26 million passengers during the course of this year.

The RPA says the 'red line' performed particularly well, with a 25% increase in passenger numbers.
