Two cases of BSE in cows have been discovered in the last week, bringing the total number of cases for the year to 41.

Two cases of BSE in cows have been discovered in the last week, bringing the total number of cases for the year to 41.

That's a drop from almost 70 cases last year, and more than 120 the year before.

The Department of Agriculture said that the falling numbers of cattle with BSE and the increasing age of those infected with the disease show that the controls are proving effective.
