Seanad passes Bill aimed at ending disputes over wills

The Seanad has approved a private-members Bill aimed at tightening up the legal situation surrounding wills.

The legislation, which was put forward by Fianna Fáil Senator Terry Leyden, would require copies of all wills to be lodged with a state agency.

It is designed to help resolve disputes over the inheritance of assets.

The Bill will go before the Dáil next year, but the legal profession is understood to be putting up resistance to the measures, so there is no guarantee that they will become law.
