Surprise inspections on way for nursing homes

Minister for Health Mary Harney has published details of new legislation setting up an independent inspection regime for nursing homes and other residential centres.

The proposed Health Bill will see such facilities face surprise inspections and possible fines or closure if they are found to be sub-standard.
