Teen remanded in connection with shooting of sergeant

A teenager from the west of Ireland charged in connection with the shooting of a Garda sergeant in Dublin in September has been remanded on continuing bail by the Dublin Children’s Court.

The 16-year-old boy is charged with possessing a 12-gauge single-barrel breach-loading hammer shotgun, contrary to the Firearms Act 1964, and possession of two shotgun cartridges at Monasterboice Road in Crumlin on September 27, and a related offence for travelling as a passenger in a stolen vehicle.

The court had heard that it was alleged the teenager was a passenger in the car when an occupant of the vehicle started to fire at the Garda. The teen was arrested fleeing from the car after it crashed.

Judge Ann Ryan today remanded the boy on continuing bail to appear again on January 9 next pending the preparation of the book of evidence in the case which is to be heard in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Another juvenile charged over the incident is also to appear in court on the same date.

Jurisdiction to hear the case in the Children’s Court had been refused earlier.
