Manhunt launched after man killed in clash with car thieves

One man died and another was left fighting for his life after a clash with car thieves, gardaí revealed today.

One man died and another was left fighting for his life after a clash with car thieves, gardaí revealed today.

A manhunt was under way in Dromad, near the border town of Dundalk, Co Louth, as gardaí issued an urgent appeal for information.

The 37-year-old victim and a friend were sitting in a car in Upper Faughart when they were approached by the occupants of a grey Mitsubishi estate which had been hijacked earlier in Dundalk.

Gardaí said a row erupted, leaving one man dead.

The second man, aged 41, was in a critical condition in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

Officers were searching for the grey Mitsubishi, registration number 00-LH-895, and preserved the scene for forensic examination.
