Man dies during altercation near Dundalk

Gardaí in Co Louth are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man during an altercation near Dundalk last night.

The man and an acquaintance were sitting in a car at Upper Faughart in Dromad at around 11pm when they were approached by the occupants of another car that had been hijacked in Dundalk earlier yesterday.

Gardaí say a row ensued, leaving the 37-year-old dead man dead and the other injured, but no further details have been disclosed.

Detectives are searching for a grey Mitsubishi, registration number 00 LH 895, that is believed to have been used by the attackers.

The scene of the altercation has also been preserved for technical examination.
