A major clean-up is getting underway this morning following damage caused by severe weather conditions over the weekend.

Flooding hit several towns and villages across the country yesterday following torrential downpours, with Crossmolina, Co Mayo, among the worst-affected areas.

High winds toppled trees and knocked down power lines, leaving 15,000 homes around the country without electricity.

The weather is expected to ease today, but could worsen again towards the end of the week, with Met Éireann predicting further flooding in some places.
