McDowell denies legislation needed after motoring offences dismissed
The Minister for Justice Michael McDowell said today that no legislation is required to deal with a number of motoring offences thrown out of court in Dungarvan yesterday.
Judge Terence Finn struck out 17 charges, including speeding offences, because gardaí could not produce an original copy of the offence in court.
The problem relates to how speeding offences are logged in the Garda computer system.
Minister McDowell told the Dáil this morning that this issue will be resolved by procedural changes and not by legislation.
