Green Party calls for judicial ethics legislation
The Green Party has called on the Minister for Justice to fast-track judicial ethics legislation in the wake of the resignation of former judge Brian Curtin today.
Green Party environment spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD stated: "The Government has dragged its feet in bringing forward judicial ethics legislation.
"Now is the time to address this issue. In a reply to a question in the Dáil on July 2, 2003, Deputy Michael Smith stated that judicial ethics legislation would be introduced in 2004.
"That legislation is now several years overdue."
