Men arrested in stolen car with shotgun and balaclavas

Detectives were tonight questioning two men arrested in a stolen car containing a sawn-off shotgun and balaclavas.

The pair, aged 27 and 32, were detained in Cork after reports of suspicious activity outside a bookmakers shop at Bakers Street in the city.

Both left the scene in a car at around 10am this morning and were followed to a nearby laneway by a detective branch patrol in the area.

A search of the car and immediate area was carried out and gardaí found balaclavas, gloves and a sawn-off shotgun. The car was later found to have been stolen in the city overnight.

The two men were arrested and taken to Gurranabraher Garda Station for questioning.
