Two Limerick teenagers have been sent forward for trial for the murder of an 18-year-old youth in the city a year ago.

Richard Treacy (aged 18,) of St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park, and Shane Kelly (aged 18), of Oliver Plunkett Street, St Mary’s Park, both in Limerick were appearing today at Limerick District Court.

Both teenagers are charged with the murder of Darren Coughlan at Old Cratloe Road, Limerick, on November 4th of last year.

The victim, who was from Pineview Gardens in Moyross, died following an attack in which he was beaten near the Limerick Institute of Technology.

He suffered serious head injuries and died in hospital several days later. Both accused were arrested and charged with the alleged offence last month, following directions from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

They were served with the book of evidence today at Limerick District Court. Judge Tom O'Donnell sent both accused forward for trial to the current session of the Central Criminal Court, which is sitting in Limerick.
