O'Reilly released on bail

The husband of Rachel O’Reilly who was accused of her murder will be today released from jail.

A bail application made by Joe O’Reilly has been granted at the High Court sitting at Cloverhill District Court.

Mr O’Reilly (aged 35), was not in court for the short hearing.

He is accused of bludgeoning his wife to death at their north Co Dublin home on October 4, 2004.

Anne Rowland, representing the defendant, agreed that Mr O’Reilly would lodge his own bond of €15,000.

His mother Ann O’Reilly, will also put up an independent surety of €15,000.

A number of bail conditions were imposed by the court. Mr O’Reilly must sign on at Balbriggan garda station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 7am and 9pm.

He must also surrender his passport and not apply for a new one. He must reside at his mother’s address at Riverside Crescent, Dunleer, Co Louth and has been ordered not to interfere with any witnesses.

The state made no objection to his application, which was agreed by Mr Justice Paul Butler.

Mr O’Reilly was formally charged with the murder of 30-year-old Rachel at Swords District Court on Friday October 20.

He was remanded in custody for one week and the case was adjourned to Cloverhill District Court.

During a short hearing in the court last Friday, no application for bail was made by the defendant.

The court heard that the Book of Evidence will be served on the accused at his next court appearance on November 10.

Ms O’Reilly’s body was found on the floor of her bedroom by her mother, Rose Callely, after she failed to turn up to collect the younger of her two children at a crèche.
