FG: Govt must produce metro cost

Fine Gael has challenged the Minister for Transport Martin Cullen to provide the public with the expected cost of the metro.

Two independent transport analysts have said it is unprecedented for a western government to hide crucial financial information.

The Dublin Metro is expected to be fully functional by 2012.

However Fine Gael Transport spokesperson Olivia Mitchell says Minister Cullen needs to own up on the costs as Irish taxpayers are fed up being ripped off.

"Let's have today's cost,” she said. “We're not looking for the price it will be in 2040. But in today's terms, if we were to build this, what would it cost. And people then can predict forward what it might be in the future."
