Opposition queries timetable for completion of metro line

Opposition politicians are querying the time-frame for the completion of the proposed metro system linking Dublin Airport to the city centre.

Details of the project were announced by Transport Minister Martin Cullen today.

Construction is due to begin in 2009 and is scheduled for completion in 2012, but Fine Gael says this time-frame is ludicrous and will not be met.

Party spokesperson Olivia Mitchell is also demanding that the Government come clean on the cost of the metro system.

Different estimates put the cost at between €1.2bn and €4bn.
