Six per cent of motorists driving without insurance on Irish roads
The Oireachtas Committee on Enterprise and Small Business has heard that 6% of all motorists on Ireland's roads are driving without insurance.
A spokesman for the Allianz insurance firm told the committee today that around 100,000 motorists were driving uninsured.
Brendan Murphy said the lack of enforcement of the law was the biggest contributor to the problem, which is creating higher premiums for those who do take out insurance.
"Unless it's enforced and strictly enforced, it's going to be a problem that will continue to be with us," he said.
