A motorist was fighting for his life today after a car crash on the north Antrim coast that killed two others.

The man was driving a BMW that hit a Renault Clio head-on near Portrush yesterday. The two dead, a man and a woman, were travelling in that car. They were Linda Hunter, 34, from Ransevyn Park, Whitehead and Jason Worthington, 36, from Linenhall Street, Ballymena.

Police said the BMW driver is from the Newtownards area.

The driver was transferred from the Causeway Hospital to the Royal Victoria Hospital where his condition was described as very critical. It is understood he suffered abdominal injuries and fractures in the accident on the Ballybogy Road.

Investigators have urged any witnesses to contact police in Coleraine.

The double fatality brings the death toll to 93 on the North's roads this year.
