Sinn Féin’s McGuiness says future is bright

Sinn Féin’s Chief Negotiator Martin McGuiness said he believed Ireland is a country on the move.

Mr McGuinness said that huge progress has been made in the North over the past number of years, both economically and politically.

And he wants to see more progress over the coming months, especially with regard to setting up the Stormont Assembly.

He was speaking ahead of a hunger strikers commemoration in Galway this afternoon.

Mr. McGuinness said the future looks better for everyone

"I think overwhelming people believe there has been a political and social transformation,” he said. “The conflict that we've seen for a quarter of a century in the North has effectively come to an end. We've had huge statements from the IRA in terms of ending their campaign on foot of an appeal from Gerry Adams."
