Progressive Democrats leader Michael McDowell has confirmed that his party will be seeking major changes to stamp duty on houses if forms part of the next government.

The party is understood to be considering a number of options such as abolishing stamp duty altogether, a major reduction in rates or spreading the payments out over the lifetime of a mortgage.
