Weekend road accidents claim five lives

A man in his 20s was killed in a two car crash in Co Donegal today.

A man in his 20s was killed in a two car crash in Co Donegal today.

The accident happened at around 3am at Rooskey, Newtowncunningham.

Five people were injured in the collision and treated in Letterkenny General Hospital.

The dead man was a passenger in one of the cars and his name has not yet been released.

He is the fifth person to die on the country’s roads this weekend.

A minibus driver was killed and several of his passengers injured on Saturday in a crash in Co Westmeath at Lough Owel.

The minibus collided with a car on the Mullingar – Longford main road.

The fatal accident followed two other road deaths and the earlier death of a pedestrian.

The toll on Ireland’s roads has now reached 265 so far this year – an average of one every day since January 1.
