Polish man charged with drunk driving after Athy accident

A Polish national has been released on bail following an incident in Athy in the early hours of Sunday morning, in which six pedestrians were injured, one seriously.

The man in his 20s was the driver of a vehicle which ploughed into the group, who were standing in Emily Square in the town at approximately 2am. All six were treated in hospital.

The man, who lives locally, appeared at Carlow District Court yesterday evening charged with drunken driving. He was released on bail and surrendered his passport. He will appear again before the court on Wednesday.
