A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Hong Kong in connection with the murder of an Asian waitress in Belfast eight years ago.

Wong Si Ching was detained by the PSNI and the Hong Kong police yesterday on foot of an extradition warrant.

The move is part of the investigation into the murder of 29-year-old Ho Mi Yi, whose body was found at a house on Isoline Street in east Belfast in June 1998.

The victim, who was strangled to death, had been working as a part-time waitress at a Chinese restaurant in Carrickfergus.

A man was acquitted of her murder six years ago.
