A man is in a serious condition in hospital following a stabbing in Dublin city overnight.

A man is in a serious condition in hospital following a stabbing in Dublin city overnight.

The incident happened on the northside of the city shortly before 2 o'clock this morning.

The 42 year old victim was rushed to the Mater Hospital after he was attacked by two men on St. Alphonsus road in Drumcondra.

The assailants stabbed the man in the stomach before stealing his wallet. They fled in the direction of Lower Drumcondra road.

They're described as being in their early twenties and around 5'6" or 5'7" in height.

Both spoke with eastern european accents.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination and Gardai at Mountjoy are investigating. Anyone with any information is asked to contact them
