Family appeal for public help to fund Spanish legal costs
The family of a Dublin woman who was killed in Spain almost a year ago has appealed for help to cover the costs of her trial.
Twenty-six-year-old Celine Conroy from the north inner city was beaten to death in front of her three children on August 28 last year.
A 28 year-old man is due to stand trial in connection with her death in a Spanish court in October.
The government has refused to help pay the legal costs, which amount to an estimated €10,000.
Celine's mother Sandra, who is battling cancer, says she has been forced to ask the public for help:
“I asked: 'What am I going to do? Am I going to get the money? Who can I turn to?' and they said they didn't know.”
She added: “I feel like a beggar asking people to help me. These decent inner-city people will put their hand in their pocket, even if it is just €1 or €5.”
