Young FG calls for funding for rape treatment units

Young Fine Gael is calling on the Government to put more money into sexual assault treatment units.

Only one in four centres receives direct financial aid from the Department of Health.

Sexual assault victims are required by law to undergo a forensic examination.

Elizabeth Munnelly of Young Fine Gael said that the lack of facilities, combined with harsh legislation, reduces the number of rape cases brought before the courts.
