Guerin's brother welcomes dismissal of Meehan appeal

Veronica Guerin's brother has said he hopes the dismissal of the appeal against Brian Meehan's conviction for her murder is the end of the line in the case.

The Court of Criminal Appeal earlier ruled that Brian Meehan's conviction should stand. He is the only person to have been found guilty of the journalist's murder.

Jimmy Guerin said it has been a difficult time for the family.

“When you get a result like this morning's it makes your pain that little bit easier,” he said. “It’s gratifying and it’s pleasing to see that justice will be carried out in relation to Meehan and that there's no chance of him getting early release from prison.

“While this is difficult, it’s also worthwhile when you see that justice has been done in the case, so it’s pleasing in that way.”
