Gardaí confirm Cobh body is that of Sheola Keaney
Gardaí tonight confirmed the body found dumped in a laneway near a rugby ground in Cobh, Co Cork is that of missing teenager Sheola Keaney.
The 19-year-old from Glenanaar disappeared on Friday being last seen walking in the Rushbrook area of the town.
About 20 gardaí spent two days searching for the local teenager when they made the grim discovery of the body hidden in undergrowth in a field near Cobh Pirates’ rugby ground.
Officers found the partially clothed body, which had been wrapped in sheets, at around 8.30pm yesterday.
It was lying around 200 yards from where clothes were found earlier in the day.
Following a preliminary examination at the scene gardaí confirmed it to be Miss Keaney.
The body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a full post mortem is under way.
A garda technical team is carrying out a forensic examination of the area where Miss Keaney’s body was found.
