The Dublin Catholic Diocese is to receive three new priests later today.

They are the first seminarians to be ordained in two years, after nobody graduated at all in the capital last year.

All three pursued other careers before entering the seminary.

More than 600 people are expected to attend the ordination ceremony in St Mary's Pro Cathedral this afternoon at 3pm.

The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, said that the small numbers of men entering the priesthood is an indication of the challenges the Catholic Church faces in Ireland.
