Labour seek independent tests for all school buses

The Labour Party has today called for all school buses to be independent tested for roadworthiness.

The call comes as the Oireachtas Education Committee prepares to question Government officials today about the progress being made on eliminating so-called "three-for-two" seating on school buses.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Labour TD Jan O'Sullivan, the vice-chair of the committee, said it was unacceptable that preventable accidents involving school buses were continuing to happen.

"At the moment, Bus Éireann do their own roadworthiness tests on their buses and I don't think that's right," she said.

"I think they should be done independently, just as our own cars are tested independently."
