Police in the North have released a 19-year-old man arrested yesterday in connection with a road accident that claimed four lives in Co Fermanagh.

Police in the North have released a 19-year-old man arrested yesterday in connection with a road accident that claimed four lives in Co Fermanagh.

The man, who has been released on bail pending further inquiries, was the driver of a Honda Civic that crashed into a tree near Lisnaskea in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two girls aged 16 and 17 and two 21-year-old men were killed in the crash.

They were all back-seat passengers in the car and were from the Lisnaskea and Newtownbutler areas.

Their deaths bring to 65 the number of people killed on the North's roads so far this year.

A male motorcyclist also died in Co Down yesterday afternoon, while in the Republic, a 38-year-old motorcyclist, a driver in his 40s and a 26-year-old male pedestrian were all killed in separate accidents in Waterford, Dublin and Mayo over the weekend.
