It has emerged that there is a loophole in the Government's affordable housing scheme which means that owners can sell their house for a profit.

The Minister for the Environment Dick Roche is coming under fire after a family who were granted a house in Cork under the scheme sold it at twice its cost price a few months later.

This is despite the fact that over 1,000 people are on waiting lists for housing in that area.

Local Green Party Councillor Chris O'Leary is furious.

“There's a loophole that says that anyone lucky enough to be included in the affordable housing scheme can actually sell the property at any time," he said.
