‘Workplace safety classes should be introduced in schools’

The National Irish Safety Organisation is calling for workplace health and safety classes to be introduced in secondary schools to prevent more tragic teenage deaths.

The group is making the call in response to the recent death of a fifth-year Co Sligo student while on a summer job.

NISO says the injury rate for 18 to 24-year-olds is 50% higher than for older workers, probably due to a lack of awareness of the hazards and risks involved in their jobs.
