Pipe bombs seized in PSNI searches
Pipe bombs have been seized during searches in Belfast, police said tonight.
Four devices, a number of detonators and a quantity of ammunition were all recovered near an electricity substation on the Deer Park Road in the north of the city.
Police moved in after military bomb experts cleared the area. No arrests were made.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman said the seizure may have saved lives.
“Pipe bombs are lethal devices which have the ability to cause grievous injury or take life,” he said.
“The local community in north Belfast is much safer as a result of the seizure, and this must be welcomed by everyone.
“The Police Service is tackling, and will continue to tackle, all crime where it occurs.”
