McArthur lawyers to begin process of seeking his release
Lawyers for convicted murderer Malcolm McArthur are reportedly due to begin the process of seeking his release in the High Court today.
McArthur is one of the State's longest-serving prisoners, having been jailed for the murder of nurse Bridie Gargan in 1982.
Two years ago, he was moved to an open prison as part of preparations for his eventual release.
Reports this morning say his legal team will be in the High Court today pursuing a declaration that his continued detention contravenes his rights under the Irish Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights.
