TUI advises against accepting social partnership deal

The Teachers Union of Ireland has advised its members to reject the social partnership deal agreed earlier this week.

The union claimed the pay rise was not big enough and the deal would result in increased workloads for teachers and lecturers.

TUI President Paddy Healy complained that talks with the government have been completely one-sided: “Talks are grossly loaded in favour of the authority.

"If they wish to make people do extra work, indeed to carry out changes which may be educationally inappropriate for whatever reason, all they have to do is withhold a pay rise until agreement is reached,” he said.
