Ahern to deliver graveside oration at Haughey funeral
An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will deliver the graveside oration at Charles Haughey’s funeral.
Mr Haughey will repose in private at his Kinsealy home until Thursday morning when his body will be brought to the Mortuary Chapel in Donnycarney Church at 11am.
There, members of the public will be able to pay their respects at the open coffin until 4pm, when he will be taken to the main church in advance of the funeral service at noon on Friday.
Two large screens will be erected to relay the funeral service to the thousands of people who are expected to attend the church in Donnycarney.
The Defence Forces, including members of the Naval Service, will line the approach to St Fintan’s Cemetery in Sutton as Mr Haughey’s funeral cortege will be escorted by a marching military battalion and band.
Books of condolence will remain open at locations across Dublin from tonight until Friday and flags will be flown at half-mast on all Government buildings until after the funeral, officials said.
