A state-of-the-art hospital to cater for the north-east looks set to be built in Drogheda.

Reports in today's Sunday Business Post say that the Health Service Executive is examining two proposals for hospitals to be built in the Co Louth town.

The first of the proposals is for a €500m, 600-bed hospital, which would be built in the car park of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

The second proposes a €250m development to be built on the grounds of Drogheda United FC.

This would be a 200-bed public hospital, with a separate 100-bed private section. The existing hospital would then be renovated to provide non-acute services.
