Man dies in West Cork diving accident

A man in his 40s has died in a diving accident off the coast of West Cork.

The man went missing yesterday afternoon while diving alone from a small inflatable boat around Spanish Point, near Goleen.

His disappearance was reported at around 7pm and a number of lifeboats, as well as the LE Eithne and two rescue helicopters, were sent to the area.

The man was located by the Baltimore lifeboat at around 10pm and transferred to Cork University Hospital where he pronounced dead on arrival.
