Sex offenders jailed under a statutory rape law declared defunct could sue the state for wrongful imprisonment, it was claimed today.

Labour leader Pat Rabbitte told the Dáil that the Government should have been better prepared for the Supreme Court’s abolition of Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 1935 because it ruled it was unconstitutional.
