McConnell: Devolution best way to end sectarianism

Scottish First Minister Jack McConnell has told politicians in the North that devolution is the best way to tackle sectarianism.

Mr McConnell made the comment in an address to the Stormont Assembly this morning.

He said sectarianism had been Scotland's "secret shame", but devolution had given local politicians the chance to toughen up the law.

He also said it had provided them with an opportunity to work with sporting, religious and other groups to ensure sectarianism had no place in modern Scotland.
